Baker's Bits - February 11, 2018

1. Children's Choir at St. Frances - Congratulations on the First Choir rehearsal! A Great Start! Thank you to Austin for your direction and leadership.

2. Day of Fast and Abstinence - February 14th is Ash Wednesday. Even though it is also Valentine's day, please remember that the beginning of Lent is more important than the secular holiday.

3. This week the universal Church celebrates our Co- Patrons Sts. Cyril and Methodius on February 14th. We honor them at all the Masses today. We will honor them again in July when the Church in Slovakia celebrates their feast on July 5th.

4. Here then is revealed the meaning and necessity of the Lenten season which, by its call to conversion, leads us through prayer, penance and acts of fraternal solidarity to renew or reinvigorate our friendship with Jesus in faith, to free ourselves from the deceptive promises of earthly hap- piness and once again to savor the harmony of the interior life in authentic love for Christ. 1. Detský zbor pri kostole Sv. Fratišky – gratulujem zboru k prvému nácviku! Je to výborný začiatok! Ďakujem Austinovi za jeho vedenie.

2. Deň pôstu a abstinencie-14. február je Popolcová streda. Aj keď je to aj deň svätého Valentína, nezabudnite, že začiatok Pôstneho obdobia je dôležitejší než svetský sviatok.

3. Tento týždeň 14. februára univerzálna Cirkev oslavuje našich patrónov sv. Cyrila a Metoda. My si uctíme týchto svätcov dnes počas všetkých sv. omší. Uctíme si ich znova 5. júla, kedy cirkev na Slovensku slávi ich sviatok.

4. Tu sa odhaľuje zmysel a dôležitosť pôstneho obdobia, ktoré nás vo svojej výzve volá k obráteniu sa, vedie nás prostredníctvom modlitby, pokánia a činov bratskej lásky k obnoveniu a oživeniu nášho priateľstva s Ježišom vo viere, aby sme sa oslobodili od falošných sľubov pozemského šťastia a opäť vychutnávali harmóniu vnútorného života v pravej láske ku Kristovi. - Sv.
