BAKER’S BITS

1. I am returning from vacation later this week. Thank you to Fr. Toni and Fr. Martin for all their work and minis- try during this time.

2. In the past couple of weeks, we have all been shocked and horrified at the news regarding the Pennsylvania clergy scandal. Since August 14, layers of missteps, cover- ups and grave mistakes by some leadership have come to light. While we may be greatly hurt and disappointed at the things that have happened remember to keep faith in God who alone can lead us from the evil that plagues members of our church. May God have mercy! Mary, Mother of the Church, pray for us!

3. On Sunday, September 16, we will have a reception for Fr. Antonio Ferrer, parochial vicar, following the 10:30 am Mass at St. Frances, Roosevelt Island. Fr. Toni will be leaving us to continue his ministry at St. Anthony in Nanuet. As Fr. Toni becomes incardinated as a priest of the Archdiocese of New York, he is called (and required) by vocation to serve in several parishes for pastoral experi- ence in many parishes. He has been a great blessing to me and the parish over the past two years and we will cer- tainly miss him. Father Ronelo P. Anung from St. Anthony, Nanuet, will become our new parochial vicar. Father Ronelo Anung and Fr. Toni happen to be very close friends who also have common roots in the Philippines. As soon as we know when will be Fr. Tony's last weekend we will announce it.

September 8 - Silver Strings Orchestra (Bratislava) / 6:30pm at St. John Nepomucene

September 14 - Jan Michalko, organ concert (SJN 7:30pm) September 23 - Slovak Heritage Festival in Middlesex County Fairgrounds, NJ

September 30 - Slovak Catholic Pilgrimage - Graymoor Spiritual Life Center, Garrison, NY

October 21 - Harvest Fest (formerly Oktoberfest)

October 26 - Silent Film ‚Phantom of the Opera‘ Austin Philemon, organ at St. Frances Cabrini, 7pm

Z PERA OTCA BAKERA

1. Koncom tohto týždňa sa vrátim z dovolenky. Ďakujem Fr. Tonimu a Fr. Martinovi za ich prácu a pastoračnú službu počas mojej neprítomnosti.

2. V uplynulých týždňoch sme boli všetci šokovaní a rozhorčení nad správami o škandále Pennsylvánskeho duchovenstva. Od 14. augusta vyšlo najavo veľa pochybností, zakrývania a vážnych chýb, ktorých sa dopustili niektorí duchovní predstavitelia. Aj keďsa môžeme cítiť veľmi zranení a sklamaní týmito udalosťami, nestrácajte vieru, pamätajte, že jedine Pán Boh nás môže vyviesť zo zla, ktoré trápi členov Cirkvi. Nech sa Pán Boh zmiluje nad nami! Mária, Matka cirkvi, oroduj za nás!

3. V nedeľu 16. septembra budeme mať recepciu pre Fr. Antonia Ferrera, farského vikára, po omši o 10:30 ráno v Kostole Svätej Františky na Roosevelt Island. Fr. Toni od nás odchádza a bude pokračovať vo svojej pastoračnej službe v Kostole St. Anthony v Nanuet. Počas procesu inkardinácie Fr. Toniho za kňaza New Yorskej arcidiecézy, je povinný slúžiť vo viacerých farnostiach, aby získal pastoračné skúsenosti. Fr. Toni bol požehnaním pre našu farnosť počas posledných dvoch rokov a bude nám veľmi chýbať. Fr. Ronelo P. Anung z Kostola St. Anthony v Na- nuet, bude náš nový farský vikár. Fr. Ronelo Anung tiež pochádza z Filipín a s Fr. Tonim sú dobrí priatelia. Keď sa dozvieme, kedy bude posledný víkend Fr. Toniho, oznámime to.

30. september - Slovenská katolícka púť - Graymoor Spiritual Life Center, Garrison, NY

21. októbra Dožinková zábava (predtým Októberfest)

26. októbra - Nemý Film „Fantom opery", Austin Philemon - organ, v Kostole Sv. Františky,7:00 pm
