BAKER’S BITS

My Brothers and Sisters,   

Christ is risen!  Indeed, He is risen! Blessed Easter!

1. A sincere note of thanks and gratitude goes to all who made these Holy Days so wonderful!  Many hours of service and preparation were given by the choir, organists, Instrumentalists, as well as all liturgical ministers - extraordinary ministers of the Eucharist, greeters, sacristans, servers, and ministers of hospitality who served food and refreshments.  God was and is glorified by all who attended the Services and Masses!

2. Some of you asked why we blessed pussy willow branches and palm leaves on Palm Sunday. The tradition of using palm leaves on Palm Sunday goes back 2000 years. In Eastern Europe, a different   tradition developed, and on Palm Sunday pussy willow branches were blessed instead of palm leaves. Pussy willows are also a symbol of Christ’s victory over death and sin. 

3. Special thank you to the singers and our cantor who sang the Passion at the Palm Sunday 10:15 am Slovak Mass.  Also, thanks to the students of the Slovak School, their teachers and the organist/singer who presented the dramatized Stations of the Cross before the Palm Sunday Mass. 

4. To those who are here for the first time or have not attended Mass for a while.........WELCOME HOME!!  You are important to us!  We are Catholic which means that no one should feel like they can't come to us!  Our doors are opened, come as you are, and let God do the rest!  Open your heart to His merciful Love! 

5.  Divine Mercy Sunday devotion at St John's: Following the 12 noon Mass there will be Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament until 3pm when the Chaplet of Divine Mercy will be recited followed by Benediction.

Kristus vstal z mŕtvych! Naozaj vstal z mŕtvych! Požehnanú Veľkú noc!

1. Úprimne ďakujem každému jednému z vás, ktorí ste pomohli tak krásne a dôstojne osláviť Veľký týždeň a zmŕtvychvstanie Pána. Členovia speváckeho zboru, organisti a hudobníci venovali dlhé hodiny na prípravu osláv Veľkého týždňa. Ďakujem mimoriadnym vysluhovateľom svätého prijímania, lektorom, uvádzačom, sakristiánom a vám, ktorí ste pripravili a servírovali občerstvenie a kávu. Počas veľkonočných bohoslužieb a sv. omší sme spoločne oslávili zmŕtvychvstanie nášho Pána a veľkonočné tajomstvo.

2. Niektorí z vás sa pýtali, prečo sme na Kvetnú nedeľu posvätili palmové listy a bahniatka. Tradícia palmových listov sa datuje spätne 2000 rokov.  Vo východnej Európe je tradícia na Kvetnú nedeľu  posväcovať vŕbové ratolesti, nazývané bahniatka alebo maňušky; bahniatka sú tiež  symbolom Kristovho víťazstva nad hriechom a smrťou.

3. Zvlášť chcem poďakovať spevákom slovenského zboru a pani kantorke, ktorí spievali pašie na Kvetnú nedeľu.Tiež sa chcem poďakovať žiakom, učiteľkám Slovenskej školy a organistovi/spevákovi, ktorí pred sv. omšou na Kvetnú nedeľu  zahrali zdramatizovanú Krížovu cestu. 

4. Vítam všetkých, ktorí ste tu po prvý raz – VITAJTE DOMA!! Veľmi nám na vás záleží.  Sme katolíci a to znamená, že nikto sa nesmie cítiť, že k nám nemôže prísť. Naše dvere sú otvorené, príďte tak, ako ste, a nech Pán Boh urobí to ostatné. Otvorte svoje srdcia jeho milosrdnej láske.  

5.  Nedeľa Božieho Milosrdenstva v Kostole sv. Jána: Po sv. omši o 12pm bude poklona pred vyloženou Najsvätejšou Sviatosťou Oltárnou do 3pm, potom bude modlitba Korunky k Božiemu milosrdenstvu a požehnanie.
